Today I had the pleasure of co-hosting the City Hall Annual Remembrance Day Service. The service commemorates the members and officers of London government organisations who died on active service in the two World Wars and other conflicts. Alongside the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and myself, plus 21 Assembly Members and GLA Officers; the event was attended by senior representatives of the London Assembly, London Boroughs, functional bodies, Royal British Legion, Armed Forces and reserves.
The Service takes place at City Hall as it commemorates the members and officers of London Government organisations who died on active service. The City Hall Branch of the Royal British Legion has a historic link to organisations such as the London County Council, Metropolitan Police Service and London Fire Brigade.
It was an honour to do a reading and to take part in the wreath laying ceremony, which is symbolic of both the individual and collective sacrifices made. We must never forget those who selflessly gave and continue to give their lives to protect us.
