A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

As we all look forward to the Christmas celebrations, none of us can forget some of the major challenges that we faced this year in London – terrorist attacks on our streets; increased numbers of young people killed or injured from knife crime; and of course the horror of the Grenfell Tower Fire.

But you know, it was during these dark and dangerous times that we saw Londoners at their best. We saw the courage of members of our public services – running towards danger in order to save those in trouble; family members and neighbours caring for each other; and strangers reaching out to comfort each other.

The words of one young Londoner will stay with me. A young Police Constable received an honorary citation for his bravery, whilst off duty, during the London Bridge attacks. After the commendation event I asked him if he had returned to London Bridge since the terrible attacks. He said, “Absolutely; no-one ne is going to stop me from enjoying a night out in my city!”.

This for me is ‘the London Spirit’ – a steadfast love and commitment to our great City. Thank you for your continued support of my work and for following me as I continue to scrutinise the actions of the Mayor and the GLA functional bodies on behalf of my constituents.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
