Whilst the community of Leytonstone is still in shock about the incidents last week at the tube station, residents have continued to go about their business, reassured by a strong police presence in the area.
Waltham Forest has always had strong community relationships, and no conclusions about the borough can be drawn from this awful crime except that local people have pulled together in the same way that they always have.
The community’s thoughts are rightly with those who were injured and affected by this attack. But it’s also a time to reflect on the contribution of our local police force who acted so courageously to protect our community.
During these uncertain times, there is a hugely important role for neighbourhood policing in ensuring our communities remain safe and harmonious. With the Met Police facing more cuts in the coming months, I will be continuing the fight to ensure we have adequate resources for local policing in Waltham Forest, Islington and Hackney.
