The Barking to Gospel Oak Line is Now Electrified and Open!

Today, I visited the newly reopened London Overground Barking to Gospel Oak line. The line, which has been closed while overhead electric lines and equipment were installed by Network Rail, is now fully back in service and ready for new longer electric trains to run from spring 2018.

As many of you know I have been a strong advocate of these developments, as they will benefit my constituents in Walthamstow by providing a more effective, reliable and environmentally-friendly service from Barking – Gospel Oak. I have worked closely with the Barking to Gospel Oak Rail Users Group (BGORUG) over the past 17 years to keep up the pressure on both TfL and Network Rail to deliver on their promises for this line.

Since the completion of electrification and the re-opening of the line on Monday, I have been monitoring the situation closely and today I went over there to see for myself. Representatives from Network Rail talked me through their progress and members from BGORUG were present to listen and ask questions. I even got to ride in the front cab!

I’m pleased that our hard work has paid off and that the line is open. I will keep the pressure on to ensure that the new, longer electric trains begin operating on time and deliver the service that my constituents deserve.
